Neema house

Sunday afternoon we headed to the Neema House which was just about five miles away. It is an orphanage that takes children affected by AIDS/HIV. Neema means Grace in Swahili, and that is what the house is based on: God's Grace. Joseph and Miriam who started the orphanage welcomed us into their home, served us an amazing lunch, and shared their unconditional faith and trust in God. There are currently 42 orphaned children residing at the Neema house where they are provided clothes, food, shelter, schooling, and love. We took the donated sunglasses , books, pens, pencils, frisbies, rub-on tattoos, pixi sticks, and more to them. They were so thankful and extremely excited. We ended up spending six hours there and the entire time was so heart warming and inspiring.

Church in Kenya

Today we went to church with a few others from the IU house. Some churches here have to scan everyone before entering ( like in the airport) to make sure no weapons or bombs are let in. We actually went to a smaller church that didn't have scanning. It was an English service which was nice! It was very interesting to see all the similarities to a Christian service in America.

Eldoret

We made it to Eldoret late Friday night. We are staying at the IU house. On Saturday we walked to the Mother Baby Hospital to have a few meetings with the staff. We toured the unit, had tea with the nurses, and were able to see parts of the rest of the hospital. Currently the NICU has about 30 babies. We helped the nurses place the smallest baby - 700 grams- on cpap while we were there. We also found out their suction machine was not working, so their eyes lit up when we told them we brought them one. (thank you SCC , we bought a couple of these machines with your donations!)

Wild animal alert!!

So the first wild animal we saw was a WARTHOG! He or she I guess was hilarious. I wasnt sure if it would get along with Walter so I didn't chase after it. We also saw a wild baboon later in the day.

Nairobi for the day

We had a day in Nairobi before our flight to Eldoret in the evening. We went to an elephant orphanage which was amazing. They currently have 23 rescued elephants and one rhino. We then had lunch at an outdoor restaurant before catching our flight.

This is where we stayed when we spent the night in Nairobi

Amsterdam airport and flight to Nairobi

I saw the craziest thing in the Amsterdam airport. It was a live foot spa. You could sit there and relax while letting fish swim around your legs and feet.  Too bad we didn't have more time!  We flew from Amsterdam to Nairobi on a double decker plane. It was another great flight. We were able to see quite a bit of Europe and Africa from the plane window.  The guy sitting behind knew the areas we were flying over and pointed things out.  Ironically at the end of the flight I found out he was from Bloomington, IN doing mission work in Africa with his church.

A view of the Mediterranean Sea and the edge of Egypt. Dustin . . . .  This pic is for you. I looked for pyramids but we were too far west.  One day we will get there!

The double decker plane

Isn't this neat!!!
