Great Job Chef Alex!

Some have asked what are you going to eat, how will it be prepared, where will it come from....... Well, here is a blog on the food we have eaten the past week in Uganda. I have enjoyed it very much!  We ate all three of our meals at the Return House. Each meal was prepared by our chef, Alex. He had a tiny kitchen space to cook all of our food, but his stove was quite impressive for the minimal amount of space in that room. When there are teams staying at Return, Alex lives at Return and cooks for them. When the teams leave, he is able to go back to his family. He did a fabulous job for us.

Here are some of the things we had - and of course, I had to add some pictures!!

Breakfast - fried eggs, fried egg/peppers/onion mixture make into triangles, bananas, samosa - which is a deep fried meat filled pastry, toast, peanut butter, and always a fresh fruit juice.

Lunch and dinner- rice or noodles, sautéd cabbage, the best green beans and carrot combination, Irish potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, yams, fried plantains, spinach, creamed spinach, vegetable curry, ground beef with peas, beef stew, tandoori chicken, beef and peppers, fish, fresh avocado, pineapple, watermelon, and much more!

Drinks- bottled water, Coke, Fanta orange/pineapple/strawberry, Sprite, Krest, Mountain Dew, and sometimes a few other random sodas.  The drinks came in glass bottles, and when we were finished the bottle would be returned to the store.

At the grocery store:
We only went into town one time and that was to buy the food for the children. While we were there, we ran into the store to buy cold drinks. Most here drink their beverages at room temperature and I have yet to see an ice cube....... (not that I would use it anyways), so a cold drink sounded amazing!
I snapped a few pics in the store. There was an armed guard at the door as we walked in, the selection of drinks surprised me, and the butter was stacked up at room temperature! I have still yet to have a glass of milk while on this trip being that it is at room temperature!

Since this is a blog on food, I'll not forget our meals on the airplanes!! Since we have had such long flights, we have been fed frequently! From a choice of chicken, fish, or lamb stew to a midnight pizza snack to omelets for breakfast, they have made sure we are not starving on the flights!
