Heartbreaking Walk

Matthew 6: 25-34

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Today was a heartbreaker. We walked through the community and visited 10 homes of children who go to Return Ministries. The families - mostly single women or grandmothers who are raising numerous children - were grateful for our visit and our prayers that we gave them in their homes. We saw more poverty today than any other day that we have been here, yet these brothers and sisters of Christ love the Lord and are thankful for his blessings. Throughout our walk today, I couldn't help but think of the above verses.  How many times do I worry about what we are going to have for dinner, what I am  going to wear to church, or even if my house is clean enough for visitors.........Today hit me hard. I have nothing to worry about. God is in control - what I need, He will provide. The families we visited today did not show fear or worry despite their living conditions, family situations, and/or lack of food and clothing. They did not care what their home looked like to visitors - they were just thankful for a prayer from fellow Christians.  What a lesson! How I need to be more like the people of Uganda and give all my worries to the Lord.

Prayer at the homes.

Waves to Mzungus (Ugandan name for white person.)
The children love to scream that and wave when they see us!

We gave each of the families that we visited a pack of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and antibiotic cream. They were beyond grateful.

Emotional day for all.

Continually, there are always smiling faces who love The Lord.
Please pray for the children of Return Ministries in Uganda. Pray for their health, for their families, and that they will continue to walk with God in their daily struggles.
